The Living In New York network is a passion of mine; intended to combine efforts of various groups who stand, reasonably, against wind turbines in residential and thickly-populated rural areas (yes, I know thickly-populated and rural don't usually go together, but they do in upstate New York).
This sites hosts a variety of information, including articles, images, blog or journal entries, meeting dates, quotes and other tools.
Accounts
Accounts are free, spam-free and private. Your username is the only data that is shared publicly without a warrant. Sign up and feel free to speak your mind.
Groups
The Living In New York site can be spun off so that each and every wind opposition group in NY state can have its own home page, with its own information, and still share the larger database that we are building.
We are happily hosting Bethany Preservation Group, Stafford Preservation Group, and We Oppose Windfarms as well as some blog activity from CRED-NY.
Even if your group has a website, please contact me at effie@effierover.com and I will be happy to give you a web home which includes blogging, image posting, user subscriptions and immediate updates.
Subscriptions
There are two type of subscriptions here - automatic and user-driven. By signing up for a group, users are placed on the group email list. This is used very sparingly by the group administrators to announce earth-shattering news.
Also, registered users may subscribe to a specific topic (such as Ice Throw or Wildlife Impact) and/or a specific area (any of the counties) to receive email updates whenever new information is posted under that category. Users can manage their subscriptions at http://www.livinginnewyork.org/subscriptions
Rules of the Road
I ask that you contribute whenever you can. Posting information about meetings, decisions, updates, and feelings are welcome even if you are not the originator of the meeting. We want to be informed -- if you hear about it, post it!
There is no charge for this service. I simply ask that you behave responsibly, something most groups are already seeing the value of.
